This beautiful 100% silk shawl with a hand rolled hem is called ‘Lady Feferiti’.
The artist, Lara Cookey, is inspired by the Power, Poise and Elegance evident in African women wearing traditional headgear, called ‘Gele’ in Nigeria. ‘Feferiti’ is a slang word which speaks to the enigmatic panache, boldness, and self-confidence of a lady.
Each shawl is presented in a hand loomed Aso-Oke (meaning ‘Top Cloth’) pouch, a traditional fabric woven by the Yoruba people of Western Nigeria, a contrast to the delicate silk fabric it contains. Noji Art is changing the narrative about traditional African art.
